The Opportunity
The Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Westmead Hospital is a key executive role responsible for providing leadership, governance, and strategic management across the Nursing and Midwifery Services. Reporting to the General Manager of Westmead Hospital and leading a large, multidisciplinary team, the Director of Nursing and Midwifery will:
- Drive high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care through clinical governance and operational excellence.
- Promote operational development and efficiency across the hospital.
- Foster professional growth and workforce innovation to meet evolving healthcare demands, ensuring sustainable succession planning.
- Build strong partnerships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and community organisations to achieve shared goals.
- Oversee resource management, compliance, and disaster response initiatives to maintain exceptional service standards.
- Implement contemporary models of care and lead quality improvement projects aligned with organisational priorities.
As an accomplished and forward-thinking leader, you possess a wealth of experience in senior management roles within large public health facilities. The successful applicant will bring:
- Extensive senior nursing management experience in large public health facilities, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to manage human, physical, and financial resources to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive care.
- Expert leadership in driving workforce planning and implementing innovative workforce models to meet evolving service demands.
- Strong change management expertise, with the ability to navigate current challenges within the nursing and midwifery profession.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to consult, negotiate, and influence outcomes across all levels of staff, patients, and stakeholders.
- Analytical and strategic problem-solving skills to support health service priorities, continuous improvement, and patient-centred care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional and clinical issues surrounding nursing and midwifery practice.
- Proven experience in managing complex HR and industrial matters while fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture.
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse – Division 1.
