A highly accomplished public sector integrity leader is sought for the position of Information Commissioner for Western Australia
The new Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) will be established as an independent integrity agency, which seeks to build community trust by empowering Western Australians to know and exercise their information rights.
The OIC will be the primary regulator and source of independent advice to the community and the Western Australian Government about how the public sector collects, uses and discloses personal and government information.
The OIC will be led by the Information Commissioner (Commissioner), an independent statutory office that will be established under the Information Commissioner Act 2024
(WA) (the IC Act). The Commissioner will be supported by the Privacy Deputy Commissioner and Information Access Deputy Commissioner, to oversee both privacy and freedom of information (FOI) matters in Western Australia. The Commissioner is also expected to be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the OIC.
The Commissioner will be responsible for the strategic and organisational leadership of the OIC with specific functions and powers outlined in the under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024
(WA) (the PRIS Act), the Freedom of Information Act 1992
(WA) (the FOI Act) and the IC Act. The Commissioner’s core functions and powers include protecting the privacy of personal information, overseeing public access to government information, and leading better practice improvements across the Western Australia government sector through engagement, advice and assistance.
This is a fixed term position for 5 years with a competitive remuneration package, including a salary of $335,867, a motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance, plus superannuation.
