The Organisation

Established in 1958, the Association of Children's Welfare Agencies (ACWA) is the peak body representing nearly 80 non-government community organisations that deliver services to children, young people, and their families across NSW. ACWA’s advocacy, education, policy, and research initiatives are driven by a common purpose: to strengthen the capacity of the child and family system and drive effective reform that delivers better outcomes for communities, families, children, and young people.

Additionally, ACWA operates the Centre for Community Welfare Training (CCWT), a leading training provider in the community services sector. CCWT offers a comprehensive range of learning and development programs to equip professionals with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact.

The Opportunity

As Chief Executive Officer, you will lead ACWA through a pivotal transition period for the child and family sector of NSW. Reporting to the Board, you will drive ACWA’s strategic vision, champion policy and advocacy initiatives, and foster strong partnerships with government, member organisations, sector leaders, and the wider community. Key responsibilities as the Chief Executive Officer include;

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring ACWA remains a trusted and influential voice in the continuum of child welfare and family services.
  • Advocate for policies and evidence based initiatives that support children, young people, and families across NSW.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, member organisations, and key stakeholders to drive meaningful sector improvements.
  • Oversee ACWA’s operations, financial sustainability, and governance, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a dedicated team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and impact.

About you

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future and driving meaningful lasting change for children and families across NSW. We are seeking passionate leader who is well-versed in navigating the intricacies of relations across the community services sector of NSW. Key criteria for the successful applicant include;
  • Proven executive leadership experience in the child, youth, and family services sector or a closely related field.
  • Strong advocacy and policy expertise, with a demonstrated ability to influence government and sector stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills, with the ability to unite diverse voices and drive a shared vision.
  • Experience leading an organisation or division, with a track record of delivering strategy, impact, and sustainable growth.
  • A deep commitment to the rights and wellbeing of children, young people, and families.
